I am reading Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser, Its general topic revolves around fast + fatty foods in the U.S and how they have grown, developed, and evolved in the past years. The book starts out with explaining who and when started the fast food movement, what their motives were, and how they were able to attract so many people so quickly. It also started going into the science behind the food making and how horrible it is for our bodies. I expect to learn about exactly what goes into every fast food meal, exactly what effect it has on your body, and what the over effect is compared to someone who has hardly eaten it. The author wrote in an intriguing way that made me feel as if he was telling a story. I chose this book because I am extremely interested in food and eating properly. I believe natural organic foods do not have enough importance put on them, and our health rates could increase majorly if only U.S citizens actually ate well.

I am reading Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg.I have found that this book is about the inequality women have with the workforce and their everyday lives. She starts off talking about her work and family life and how she begins to notice that men are still superior to women in some cases and widely superior in many countries today. I chose this book because this was highly recommended in the category i am very interested in, which is inequality and how it plays out within different circumstances.

I'm reading Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance. It's about a man born into a poor family who managed to achieve the "American Dream" through hard work. He argues that the power of work ethic is undervalued in today's society, contributing to the plight of the poor working class. He communicates his ideas through stories of his struggles in life and the lessons they taught. I expect this book to carry heavy topics that may be difficult to absorb or fully understand. Hillbilly Elegy caught my attention, because I don't know much about the topic. After reading the Introduction, I was intrigued by Vance's blunt manner of writing. I would've stopped after the first page, but I couldn't stop reading. I chose this book, because I think that Vance has fascinating ideas that will help me to better understand society's flaws. I take interest in the message of the book, because I highly value work ethic. Also, since I'll be old enough to vote next presidential election, I'd like to start learning more about society's drives and forming opinions. I look forward to reading it!

I'm reading Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser. It's about the growth of the fast food nation and its local and global influence on the United States. It shows where fast food first started and how it became more and more widely known. I expect it to be about how fast food is bad for the nation's health and how it could become better. I choice this book because I felt like it would help with my major in nursing so I can tell people how fast food works and how it is unhealthy for us to eat. I felt the way the author wrote was intriguing and almost story telling. He started like how you would when you are writing a fairy tale. I am looking forward to reading this book because I feel there is a lot of knowledge in this book about the fast food nation and it's health risks!

I'm reading "Into thin Air" by Jon Krakauer. This book is mostly about Krakauer's journey to reaching the top of Mount.Everest, along with other people, which involves tragic moments and happy moments. Reading from the fist page, I can expect, things that got on Krakauer's way from reaching the top. Did what everyone though could happen happened? and how he went about that. I know that everyone who has lived in this world has had adventure or if still alive, living an adventure. Every adventure that we do consist on something. Getting to the top wether spiritualily, sociabily ect. But our main goal is to be on the top. Which it creates a journey, and that journey can say how strong or weak you are by thr actions that you take and the attitudes that you do. This book is about how much effort the person had to put in, in order to have reached the top. This book is litterally talking about getting to the top, which I think is pretty awesome for anyone to read and that's why it brought my attention.

I am reading Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. Gladwell wants to share his thoughts on what contributes to success though this book. He talks about what makes the high achievers, or outliers, different. In the introduction, he gives a story in which people's health is determined by the surrounding community and way of life. He says this is analogous to success, and I am intrigued by this. I never really thought of success in this way. I thought it was all about what you do and how hard you, as an individual, try. It seems that throughout the book, he will provide examples of how success is based on your surrounding community and factors that we may not think of. I am interested in seeing if he can change my views on success factors and how he comments on societal views around success. Also, I find our society to be very confusing at times, and I think success could sometimes be subjective. Because of this, I constantly think about the factors around me that can determine my success. I want to know if I am looking at the right things, or if I am on the right track.

I am reading Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance. From what I know about the book and reading the first page. I expect it to be a book about the life of a man who grew up in the rust belt, born into a family of “hillbillies”. I believe it will be an insiders look into the minds of these people, how they think, and why they live the way they do. I also believe it will provide some insight into working class America and why so many flocked to Trump’s campaign. I chose this book because I have heard about it before and I find the topic, as well as politics in general, to be interesting. I really have been wondering about what appealed about Trump’s campaign and his message to so many Americans, which is why this book fascinates me in a way.

I will be reading Operating Instructions by Anne Lamott. This book is centered around the author's response to unexpectedly conceiving and having a son. After reading the first page, I expect this book to contain wit and dark humor. Reviews for the book describe that the book is an honest account of motherhood because the author has questionable thoughts, such as wishing her child would disappear. Knowing this, I am curious to see how the author adapts to her new life. I want to know if she concludes that having a child was a positive experience or a negative one.

I will be reading Revolutionary Suicide, the autobiography by Huey P. Newton. This book documents the life of Huey P. Newton who was a prominent memeber of the Black Panther Party. From the first page I can tell the author is going to be very blunt and sometimes disturbing by how he recalled playing with dead cats because his family couldnt afford toys to play with. I personally look up to Huey P. Newton as he has done very well for the black community and equallity as a whole so I am excited and scared to see how this autobiography is executed.

I am reading In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan. To my knowledge the book so far is about a journalist who is going over the question what we should eat? I expect this book to be about why our society has started eating more processed food and how we can go back to the root of the problem and change our ways. I chose this book because I wanted to learn more on what I am consuming on a daily basis. I am also curious on what my mother studied in school because she is a dietitian and I hope that In Defense of Food gives me the opportunity to do that.

I am reading Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance. This book is based off of the author's life, such as him being born into poor family and being raised by his grandma, because his mom becomes addicted to drugs. This book describes how in these poor rural areas it is hard to make something of yourself. Although J.D. Vance was able to achieve the "American Dream" despite his constant set backs. I expected this book to hard to read and comprehend at some points. After reading the first page I was interested in how he graduated from Yale and still thinks that he hasn't accomplished anything extraordinary. I chose this book because I know that the life I live in Marin is very different from the life that people in these poor cities live, and I wanted to broaden my perspective on what it is like to grow up in these kinds of cities and towns.

(He is a journalist) While climbing this mountain he is introduced to many new people who we soon befriends. This book focuses on the fact of adaptation from these men because of the large issue of life or death. I chose this book because it interests me very much to learn about the struggles of doing something bold and new. I don't know very much about rock climbing at all especially in such terrible conditions like Mt. Everest. I am reading Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser. Just from reading the first couple of pages, I have determined that this book is mostly about the impact that the fast food industry has had on the culture and politics of the United States and the world. The author shares the stories of the fast food founders and how they got their business started. He even brings in the history of those times to show how it affected and how it was effected by the fast food industry. He also talks about the effect that fast food has had on families and, more importantly, their kids. He talks about how fast food businesses target children in order to bring more money into the company. Fast food business knows the affect that kids can have on their parents. The book also talks about how fast food chooses teenagers as their workers because teens are willing to work longer hours for less money, and due to their inexperience, they are easier to manipulate. I chose this book mostly because I wanted to learn about how the fast food industry came to be, as it has always interested me. However, I never realized how intricate the business is, nor did I realize they usually came from simple beginnings. It has also made me appreciate the extent that these businesses will go in order to get the best bang for their buck, no matter the affect it will have on us, the consumers.

I am reading Fast Food Nation, because I have always found an interest in media that critiques parts of our culture and how Americans tend to live our lives and the corporations that influence that. I am a huge fan of the movie Super Size Me as well and this book is tackling similar topics to topics in that movie. Books like this that help us as a society as a whole understand the for profit system we currently live in where corporation put profits before their customer's wellbeing is beneficial to all of us. That is why I am reading Fast Food Nation

I am reading In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan. This book is an argument by Michael Pollan that what we are eating today isn't food; he argues that the majority of food that we are eating today is "edible foodlike substances" and that we should mostly be eating plants. I expect this book will provide a look into why the author thinks that what we are eating today isn't food and how society shifted from basic unprocessed food to excessively processed foods. I chose this book because I believe that it could give a good argument about how we as humans have become greedy with our food. I think that this book will offer an opposing view to mine in terms of the recent mass production of food.

I am reading The Sixth Extinction by Elizabeth Kolbert. The introduction to the book introduces the idea of a sixth major extinction that will greatly impact humanity. The author talks briefly about the other five major extinctions that happened previously. Elizabeth draws connections between different organisms to the extinctions that happened in the past to try to predict when and what will become extinct in the next major extinction. The first couple pages of the book give an outside view of human nature. It also compares humans to different organisms on Earth and how humans started naming things before they had a name for themselves. I chose this book because the idea of extinction and evolutions interests me. The author talks in a way that gives another view to the human race. She talks as if she is not human which opened up my eyes to a different perspective. It explains a different idea in a creative way.

I am going to be reading "In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote. It is a biography documenting the story of the murder of the Clutter family in Kansas in 1959. While Capote was not personally affecting by these murders, he immediately found the story intriguing and spent the summer of 1959 in Kansas following every step of the investigation, even after the killers were caught and executed. I chose to read this book because I really enjoy crime shows and putting evidence together to find the end. I also have never heard about this murder story and find it weird that all that came from the murder of four innocent people was a book that, yes got to the best sellers list, but stopped there. After reading the first page I could tell Capote was going to go into great detail. While it only talked about the setting and how the town of Holcomb, Kansas appeared to a new visitor, it got me excited to find out just how twisted this seemingly quiet and put together town could get.

For my nonfiction book I decided to read In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. This book is about the murder of four members of the Herbert Clutter family and was written because of the journey that Truman Capote and his childhood friend Harper Lee decided to embark upon after learning of the quadruple murder. The murder occurred in the small town of Holcomb Kansas on November 14 late at night. The book explains the process of identifying suspects, finding evidence, and eventually determining the murderer or murderers. I predict that the murders were not done by one of the children of the Clutter family but instead either the mother who suffers from clinical depression or possibly someone not familiar with the family. I decided to read this book because I love mystery and crime and I really like figuring out suspects and piecing together my own hypothesis about the crime. I figured this would be a really interesting book that I could really sink my teeth into.

The books is told by the view of an inmate that experienced these vile events first hand. The book night tells the story of a day in the life Inmate in the camp and how tragic and grotesque it really was. I chose this book not because it's a beautiful story but because it's the story of one of the most important and interesting things in history.

As the case was going on this book was being written so it was following the very steps of which the police were going through at the time. In reading the first page, I can already see that the this book will be very detailed and through with the investigation of the murder.

I am reading Into Thin Air. This book is a book about a guy named Jonathan who was hiking Mt.Everest when the tragic accident of 1996 happened, which was when eight people died and several others were stranded on Mt.Everest because of a huge storm. Jonathan was one of the few people who had survived and was able to tell his story and share his experience with the world first hand. I chose this book because it sounds very interesting and I have heard that it is a great book.

I am reading The Fabric of the Cosmos by Brian Greene. The book is about space and time, about what it is and how it all comes together as a whole to create the reality of our world and universe. While diving into multiple theories of space and time relativity. I expect a great deal of questions to rise from this book all while questioning life its self.

The book I am reading is Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond. It is a thesis discussing and answering the question of why the differentiating people's in the worlds society thus far have developed differently and at different rates. This takes a scientific approach to the question. I have listened to the prologue and I am expecting two things; science of evolution and world history. So far the intellect of this author has been gathered through treks in New Guinea and living in American cities. I chose this book because of it's intriguing title and am absolutely loving it so far, because I love psychology. This author takes the question at moral and raw intellectual understanding of the world around them. I enjoy this author's outlook of the world other people are to afraid to attempt to display.

One article I have read is titled "Disability and the Right to Choose" by Jennifer Bartlett. In this article, Bartlett discussed the abortion of babies with disabilities. She felt it was necessary to share her view since she had cerebral palsy, yet still chose to have her baby. She explained how she supports legal abortion only if the child's disability would lead to a short and painful life. Otherwise, she claimed that the option of abortion should not be given if a disability is detected in the fetus. Bartlett backed up her claim by telling the story of a women who aborted two of her babies when she learned they had an extra finger. She also theorized how families might abort fetuses based off of their gender.

Along with learning all about the secrets of DNA. The reason I chose this book was because I am fascinated by DNA and how it is used. This summer I will be reading the autobiography of Malcolm X written by Malcom X. I understand in this book there are many of life choices and true events that Malcom encountered. Throughout his life he went through a lifetime of segregation and racism.I have chosen this book to further gain knowledge on the life of Malcom X and his journey through life. I believe that through reading this book I can grasp the way of life back in the time of Malcom and see and try to understand what exactly he experienced. By the end of the book I would like to have been able to put myself in his shoes and try to interpret how he felt, what he was thinking and why he did all the things he did.

I apologize for being so late. I am reading The Demon-Haunted World by Carl Sagan. I know that this book addresses pseudosciences, and debunks them, while explaining how these beliefs may have came into existence in the first place. From reading the first page, I expect this book to be centered partially around Carl Sagan, perhaps with quite a few personal anecdotes in it. I chose this book because I have always enjoyed science, and I also like to understand why people think the things they do, and, (in certain cases) why they are wrong, or misguided. Because I like both science and debunking things, I thought that this would be a good book for me.

I chose In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. I have heard of this book before, so I knew that it was about murder investigation in the 1950's. I have heard it referenced in other books and movies because it is considered an American classic because of the author's writing style and the way he tells the story. From the first page, I can assume that the book is set in a small town, where not much goes on. I expected the book to be full of detail and written from the point of view of a person who grew up in a small town. I chose this book because I thought that a murder investigation sounded very interesting to me, and I wanted to read the book that I had heard of before. This book interested me because I like to hear true stories about murder investigations and crime, and learn about the criminal justice system and how crimes are solved.

I decided to read The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin. I chose to read this book because after taking biology i took great interest in Darwin's field work and his writings. The book is about his theory of evolution using his research from the Galapagos and fossils that have been uncovered over the years. His work has been so influential not only in the scientific community but it changed the way the common man thought.

1) I am reading Status Anxiety by Alain de Botton.2) I know that this book is about the stresses of societal ranking and the external judgement that we let affect our internal emotions. I expect that I will learn the truth about society and it's twisted ways. 3) I chose this book because I know that while being in high school it can be difficult not to struggle with anxiety around societal ranking and judgement. Being a teenager I can relate to knowing what it feels like to crack under societies constant search for perfection.
