There was . . . a feeling of having descended in the social scale, with a corresponding sense of having risen in the spiritual." What does she mean exactly. Explain how this can be true for Edna. 2) What is it that leads Edna to her fate at the end of the novel? Is it men? Society? Is there any other possible outcome?
